Hot Shots Film Festival

The Hot Shots film festival was a great success and a lot of fun for all who attended.

Everything was done up really fancy. There was a red carpet set up and even a limo arrived with guests. The filmmakers and guests all looked great!

The house was packed, there were even a few people left standing in the back. There were many contestants and the shorts and ads were terrific.

This is Jessica with the winners of the Teen Line ad. Their commercial was better than great! CBC will be airing it in the near future and we are sooo lucky to have the contribution. These two submitted three commercials and they won first AND second place.

Mission Accomplished

I got my desk cleaned and cleared...

When You Can't Do Anything Right...

Not such a great day so far... So I thought I would take a minute out of my busy day to vent a little. I was in a good mood earlier but not anymore because it seems like even is telling me that I talk to much, I laugh too much, and that the way I am day to day is just not alright.

I probably do talk to much... I find it funny that I've been told I laugh to much and am too happy all the time as I know there are other people in my life who would say the exact opposite and say I am miserable way too much.. and yes my desk is pretty damb messy right now. I think I am just going to shut up for the rest of the day and not smile while cleaning up my desk - that should make everyone happy.

I'm looking forward to the Hot Shot festival tonight, it will be nice to have a change of environment. I will try to remember to take the camera so I can post some pics later as well...

Hot Shots

There is an film festival called Hot Shots in Calgary tomorrow. I am going to be attending with my office-mate Jessica.

I am taking tickets at the door and Jessica is one of the judges. We are attending because one of the categories that students have submitted enteries in is an advertisement for our teen line at the Distress Centre. There are short film and other competitions, and it should be a great time. If you are in Calgary check out the website and come on down and support the kids and some great causes!

An NDP Story

This is the most entertaining tail (tee hee) I have read in a long time. It was found on one of my favorite blogs The Milner Blog, It was one of the first blogs I ever stumbled upon and an inspiration to start Blogging myself. I really miss brother Jeff's entries and the rest of the family seem to have dropped out of the family Blog as well but Gary's postings usually make me laugh! Go check it out...

It's the story of a place called Mouseland. Mouseland was a place where all the little mice lived and played, were born and died. And they lived much the same as you and I do.

They even had a Parliament. And every four years they had an election. Used to walk to the polls and cast their ballots. Some of them even got a ride to the polls. And got a ride for the next four years afterwards too. Just like you and me. And every time on election day all the little mice used to go to the ballot box and they used to elect a government. A government made up of big, fat, black cats.

Now if you think it strange that mice should elect a government made up of cats, you just look at the history of Canada for last 90 years and maybe you'll see that they weren't any stupider than we are.

Now I'm not saying anything against the cats. They were nice fellows. They conducted their government with dignity. They passed good laws--that is, laws that were good for cats. But the laws that were good for cats weren't very good for mice. One of the laws said that mouseholes had to be big enough so a cat could get his paw in. Another law said that mice could only travel at certain speeds--so that a cat could get his breakfast without too much effort.

All the laws were good laws. For cats. But, oh, they were hard on the mice. And life was getting harder and harder. And when the mice couldn't put up with it any more, they decided something had to be done about it. So they went en masse to the polls. They voted the black cats out. They put in the white cats.

Now the white cats had put up a terrific campaign. They said: "All that Mouseland needs is more vision." They said:"The trouble with Mouseland is those round mouseholes we got. If you put us in we'll establish square mouseholes." And they did. And the square mouseholes were twice as big as the round mouseholes, and now the cat could get both his paws in. And life was tougher than ever.

And when they couldn't take that anymore, they voted the white cats out and put the black ones in again. Then they went back to the white cats. Then to the black cats. They even tried half black cats and half white cats. And they called that coalition. They even got one government made up of cats with spots on them: they were cats that tried to make a noise like a mouse but ate like a cat.

You see, my friends, the trouble wasn't with the colour of the cat. The trouble was that they were cats. And because they were cats, they naturally looked after cats instead of mice.

Which is fine by me, because I am going to be a cat.

Grumpy Jessica

I couldn't decide what to write about today but I finally decided to tell you about my officemate Jessica.

I walked into the office today and the first thing Jessica told me was that she was grumpy. I thought oh no, this is going to be a long day!

She actually wasn't that bad at all. I ended up getting grumpy for a bit but that was only because my computer kept on turning itself off without warning and I lost the same damb three paragraphs about four times in under an hour. I couldn't figure out why at all... I checked the power management, but it wasn't set to turn off the system at all. Then I tried to troubleshoot by timing the intervals between shut outs but it was without rhyme or reason... first 11 minutes, then four, then six. The other strangest thing was that I couldn't just power it back up I had to unplud the power cord and plug it in two or three times and then it would power up again. We called our computer tech company and the rep came and took the PC away. I guess the power unit in the back was blown, luckily I got it back at noon.

Anyways I strayed away from my Jessica talk. I guess I was just thinking about it and considering she was sick, frustrated, and over worked she wasn't too bad at all... I'm pretty lucky as far as the office mate situation goes. SUCH a change from my last place of employment... but that is a longer story for another day!

Hope you feel better soon Jess :)

Happy B-Day Ren!!!

It's my best friend (and cousin)'s birthday today. She is thirty three years young and looking and doing better than ever. She got me drunk last night and made my day at work today hell (due to my hangover) but it was a good time and definetly worth it!

Happy 33 Ren! I know it will be a good one...

Maxx and Jaike

I know I am being a total cat lady but I had to also share one of my favorite pictures of Maxx and Jaike. This picture was taken a few days after I brought Jaike home.

The day that I went to pick up Jaike, Maxx was at the vet getting fixed. Maxx was know for his big fluffy pom-pom balls, so the big joke when he decided that he loved the new kitty was that Maxx thought Jaike was his pom pom balls. Jaike is now bigger than Maxx but they are now, and always have been really close.

They're the best!

Wyckham

I have been thinking a lot about a very important family member I lost, the family member I am speaking of is my cat Wyckham and please do not laugh as I cannot name a family member I have lost as much as I miss my Wyckham.

Wyckam would probably not be my pick of the litter in a million years! She was short haired, female, and whinny and possibly the exact opposite of anything I would pick in a cat... but my new roommate Wayne brought her home and I instantly fell in love. I told Wayne how awesome it would be if we named her Wyckham since that is where we all started hanging out (Wyckham house in Mount Royal College) and he soon agreed even though it was a very inappropriate name for a female cat. Then there was Wyckham...this cat was the semi runt of the liter from the start, We got her when I was like early 20's and she put up with a lot of drunken irrational people etc... I even remember her betting into a bag of mushroom that was lying around the house and going crazy trying to claw my eyes out for a full day. I was out of it and couldn't figure out why Wyck wanted to kill me all of a sudden! We all calmed down eventually and figured out we were all alright.

Wyckham was weird and unpleasant to everyone she met, but she trusted and loved me completely. Although it wasn't the first time I have felt this (as it is a wave and a feeling I have felt from my mother since the day I was born), it was probably the first time I stood back and took notice of unconditional love in it's purest form. She trusted me with all her heart. She loved and trusted me everyday, and hissed, was annoyed by, and had no trust in anyone else in this world.

Wyckham was Wayne's cat... but not really. From day one she was mine and although he didn't know it my new friend Wayne gave me the best, most precious gift ever concievable. I remember when I moved out Wayne said to me "well you can leave the cat" but that was not even realistic, she came and lived with me at my mother's and then everywhere I moved she came along.

Wyckham got sick pretty young and I had to make the very difficult choice to put her down. She was a VERY stressed out cat from day one and eventually developed a lot of urinary problems. It was painful for her and could not be cured so I scheduled for her to be put down at 2:30pm on July 31st, 2000. It was the hardest thing I ever did. I let her go outside really early in the morning to enjoy her last day and when I tried to call her in she kept on running off because it was a beautiful day and she didn't want to come in. She was feeling pretty good that day and I felt so guilty for cutting her day in the sun short to... well say goodbye to her forever. I really almost didn't go, but I was also moving out of my dreamhome that day into a grungy basement suite and she couldn't come. So we went.. I miss her.

All Work and No Play

I've scheduled myself for extra shifts in the next few weeks and am going to be at work quite a bit. I picked up extra shifts this Saturday and Sunday, one extra shift next weekend, and extra shifts on the next two Saturday and Sunday's after then.

It may end up being brutal but the extra cash will really be nice. I am really lucky that I have got the opportunity to pick up a few extra shifts as paid shifts because now that I am on salary in this job, if I work a long day then I get time in lieu but there is no overtime pay so it can be hard to get extra cash and get ahead.

The thing I loved best about working at Radius with Richard was once in awhile we would get paid or get some money and when we did he always paid me really, really well and out of the blue I would have a thousand dollars out of the blue. It was the best money every since it wasn't budgeted out before I got it. I could always pay off my Visa's or just have some extra cash to do something for myself.

I haven't decided what I am going to do with my extra thousand that I will get for all these extra shifts but I sure am having fun deciding! It is down to putting in a new hardwood floor in the house or maybe going on a vacation to visit Geoff in Texas as soon as I can get some time off (probably September). I would love to finally see his home in Texas (I've finally accepted he probably isn't coming back!).

I'll let you know as soon as I decide...

Constable Shandler-Bertolo

This is for all of you out there who know my godson Jordan and his dad.

I was just over at Ronaye's and Jordan was showing me his new Kindergarten yearbook that he got today.

There was a little write up for each kid under their pictures and Jordan's write up provided quite the laugh. It asked what they wanted to be when they grew up and Jordan's answer was "A police officer so that I could work with my dad"

Hmmmmm the irony.....

Creepy Cat

This is my cat Jaike.

I wanted to share this picture with you all to show you how odd Jaike can be at times. You see Jaike likes to sleep with his eyes open (as you can see here where he is totally asleep).

It can be pretty creepy! Sometimes I go up to him and see him like this and I have nighmare of him being dead one day laying on the floor with his eyes wide open.

I get to thinking about it for a while and then I go and poke him to make sure he is still alive. He doesn't like that so much, so he gives me a dirty look and then goes back to sleep - with his eyes open...

I'm tired... So tired...

I am so super tired today! I have been since I first woke up this morning...

I stayed up later than I wanted again (2:30am) stuck on another game (Black & White). I do that a few times a week but I don't usually feel as bagged as I did today. My eyes were heavy when I woke up and they have been heavy since. In fact I think when I am done blogging I may just retire for the night.

Nothing really exciting happened to day. It was Friday so everyone was a little restless. I have to work tomorrow doing an open house at work so even though it is Friday night it is not a true Friday.

Avery was over tonight, we are totally stuck on level 19 on Stronghold so I started him on Black & White and helped him get through the first world. I really need to get more of a life and get off the computer. I keep thinking I should unplug it for the summer but I just can't seem to do it. I am addicted, the first thing I do when I get home is turn the damb thing on... and if I hold back and don't turn it on it drives me nuts and within half an hour it is always on. Many times I turn it on and then have nothing I want to do on it so I just sit in front of it and stare at it until I get sucked into a game... as I said, I think I may be addicted!

More Hockey Night

New blog online so I can't help but post more about last night's hockey action. It was actually alot of fun. With the Calgary Flames being in the Stanley Cup hockey seems to be a very popular activity lately. The neighborhood kids dragged the net back and forth to the back of my house since we have the best slab of concrete (newly paved last year), and since construction was being done back there everyone has been parking at the front leaving a good size area for them as well. Now they are leaving the net and some equipment behind the house since it is easier than dragging it around.

Anyways as I was saying all the neighborhood kids were out at first and they actually had quite a game going. My godson Jordan arrived with my brother Kent first and then me other godson Avery showed up right behind them. Everyone wanted Kent on their team but I think that it ended up being Kent (the biggest guy) and Jordan (the littlest guy) against the rest.

My cousin Ren trotted down the path to see if the kids could stick around and play out back while she went to help her brother move, my other cousin Rob (Rob's girlfriend Becky is pregnant and we are very excited).

This meant that Ave and Jordie got to stay out later than the other kids and after the other kids went home Kent and Jordie took some shots of Ave in the net. This is my favortie save shot of all the ones we got. Avery dropped his stick and bounced the ball off his glove. If you look over his shoulder you can see the ball right above his glove (looks like it is almost sitting on top of the tree).

In the end we decided to take a picture to show "Hey, this kids got potential". That is the look that Kent is giving here. I borrowed the digital camera last night to get these shots but I really do need one really soon so I can continue bringing great pictures and great stories from my world to you... :)

Hockey Night In Oakridge

The boys were out playing hockey with Kent tonight. It was good times for all.

Much Ado About Nothing

This is my newest blog. A place for updates about what I am doing and hopefully a whole bunch of pictures of me and all of mine. That would be my godboys, my family, and even my friends. My hope is that I can keep this page up to date so that I can keep you guys (once again my people) up to date also. In the long run it could also make a really record of my life that I can look back on again and again and again!
