Mega Million $ Shoot Out

Today we had our big fundraiser at work which is our annual gof tournament... people who enter can win the chance at a million if they get a hole in one on a particular hole.

I worked the registration desk where everyone signed in and got a bag of goodies! I actually got to sell three mulligans and entry into the putting contest for $20 (but first I had to ask what a mulligan was!).

We held the tournament at Lynx Ridge Golf Course in Bear's Paw... it was an absolutely gorgeous day which was just about a miracle since it has been pouring rain the last few days!

The turnout of golfers was pretty good... we also had a number of the staff as well as fundraising volunteers out to help.

Sponsors turned out to take part in the tournament as well.

A really cool thing that happened this year was that someone donated the entrance fee (which was a couple hundreds of dollars) for seven of our volunteers to come out and play in the tournament. This is Katie who is our volunteer manager with one of our crisis line volunteers Steve.

Everyone seemed to have a really good time :)

This is Genieve, Carla, and Erin... our "Sobey's girls"!

Later tonight after the tournament there is a fancy dinner and a silent auction

I sure hope we do well with the fundraising this year...

... and I hope someone wins the MILLION!!!!!

Calaway Park

I headed back to work today and it was a great day to be returning since Wellness Committee decided to treat us to a day at Calaway Park.

We started out the afternoon with a free meal. I chose the sub meal as did more than half of the staff and it ended up being the worst out of all the choices!

After we were done with lunch me and Carolynn snuck off to find the "designated smoking area" that was located behind a tree beside this bench. I don't think we ever would have found it if not for the lady sitting on the bench smoking...

When we were done with that we met back up with the group and hit the rides!

Natalie, Jessica, Claudia and Natalija headed for the big boat...

Me and Erin decided to just watch (didn't think our stomachs could take the boat)... Jessica trusted me to hold her pop and I in turn trusted Erin... it was a bad choice cause she dumped it on the ground!

Suzanne and Joan were the first to be brave enough to attempt the whip around thingy ride...

While the rest of us waited... enjoyed the sun... and enjoyed the action...

And not too long after Erin and Jessica were on trying out the same ride!

The group broke apart for awhile then while a bunch of us headed over to the insanely long log ride lineup and the others headed over to a few other rides including the bumper cars (I can't believe I missed out on bumper cars)

It was the longest lineup but after about an hour we broke thru and enjoyed our two minute ride!

It left us soaked but it was well worth the wait!

I headed home afterwards but could not find my car in the parking lot for like almost an hour... I couldn't figure out if I had gone crazy or if it had been stolen... I finally found it but it was very frustrating (lots of trucks and RV's in lot were blocking my view!)

Update

So my dad is back at the Rockyview Hospital and today I went up with my mom and my sister to visit.

He is really looking great considering! When we were there they took off the oxygen and the nitroglycerine? was going to be stopped as well so hopefully by the end of the night he will be on the regular ward and he should be home by the end of the weekend!

Dad

I got a call from my mom while I was at work this afternoon and I she was calling to let me know that my dad had a heart attack last night. He called the ambulance and was taken to the hospital.

My mom does not drive and he insisted that he didn't need her to come along so she has been at home waiting, she was going to head down this morning but he called her to say they were moving him to the Foothills hospital for an angeogram? and that he would not be allowed any visitors and would probably be moving back to the Rockyview Hospital by our house afterwards so we have all been sitting patiently and waiting.

Work sent me home after I got the news so I finished off what I was doing and headed home. I tried to get ahold of my mom for an update but she isn't answering. I did speak to my sister and she hasn't heard from my mom so were not to sure if she's headed to the hospital or what but hopefully she will call and we will know soon...

Please send your prayers and well wishes our way... I'm really hoping that he comes through this unscathed!

8:57PM Update

I talked to my mom and I guess she ran out to the store with my Uncle Jan. She just called and I guess there was a blockage in his heart so they did the angeoplasy? and they told my mom that he did really well. He is on his way back to the Rockyview Hospital tonight and we will still not be able to visit for a bit but I think my mom is heading up there right away. By the sounds of it he is going to be alright but I bet he will have to quit smoking (poor guy). I'll update when I can.

In the HOH with the ‘Stupid Girl’

This one is for my Big Brother 6 Fans...

I came home and read the update on jokersupdates.com and laughed pretty hard at this one!

In the HOH with the ‘Stupid Girl’

Jen is SO mad; she is on a rant about BB’s choice of song this morning. She says “I'm a girl and I'm HOH what do you think it's about? They are trying to f*** with me!” Ivette and Maggie are trying to reassure her that the song is not about that, but Jen isn't having any of it. She is cursing up a storm and VERY angry. Ivette is saying maybe it’s about Rachel, because she is thinking of not using the veto or taking Janelle off instead of herself. Then Jen says “It's not about Rachel, even though she is a stupid girl. They're just mad because I don't tell them s***! I make for good TV, mf’ers!” I guess because Jen is in the shower still mad, everyone can hear her, because the sound travels down through the drain. LOL

Ivette is now telling the gang in HOH about James filling her in on the conversation he had with Rachel last night and how Rachel opened up to him and they are none too happy to hear this. They also don’t understand why Rachel wanted the veto so desperately, if they were only pawns to get James out, it should be no big deal.

Out of the shower now, Jen is told to ‘put on her microphone’. She flips the bird to the camera and says “playing that song may let the other side know that the deal was broken.” Then Jen is questioning whether the song could be saying that she's stupid for not getting rid of James. “I'm not going to ask them why they played that song, I hate them.” Jen says she knows better than BB what makes for good TV. She says “doesn’t it make for better TV to not let them (us) know what she is going to do?” April tells Jen she is reading too much into it.

Nav's Last Day

Today was a really sad day... it was Nav's last day...

It's the last time he can sit and hug David on the couch...

The last time he will walk to the McDonald's... get bad service... and sip on his coke at his cubicle...

The last time he will hang out by Steve while he takes his calls...

The last time he'll get dehydrated after giving out information about community and social services in Calgary...

And the last time he sneaks up behind Serena and scare her...

Paul did arrive at the end of the day with a bag full of gifts before Nav left...

The first gift was a card...

With a farewell message from all of us at the D.C.

He also got a Stampeders touque so he remembers where he came from and so his ears don't freeze...

And a crockpot (in the box) so he doesn't starve to death...

It was very sad and we all cried when it came time for Nav to leave and Paul took away his access card!

Good Luck Nav... We can't wait until you come back to visit at Christmas!

It's August...

So it's August...

Kind of depressing since it means that we are in the last month of summer... well not technically but kind of... the kids head back to school in a month and things will get busy at work again.

The nice thing is that it means that it's only a month until I am in my new position... the bad thing is that it's gonna start getting cold around here again... and I hate winter and the snow it brings.

It seems like everyone is moving on at work as well... Two of our crisis counsellors Ann-Louise and Kirsten are moving to new cities... Claudia (who had the job I am moving into) is going back to school to work on her Master's, and the whole 211 team except for Kyle is leaving with Nav going to Saskatoon to become a doctor, Josh to a great new position working with high risk youth, and Daphne going to work with Alberta Mental Health. Things are a changing around here, and I'm going to miss all of them... especially Nav, cause I really enjoy visiting with the Nav!

I have been really lazy updating the blog and have no pictures to share with you because I lost my battery recharger when we came back from the cabin and my camera is DEAD... maybe I will recharge it on the charger at work and take some pictures of my peeps before they leave... I guess we'll see if I remember.
