604 RCACS Annual Inspection

Today was a long day. I had to be at the armories at 8am to get the cadets ready for their annual inspection.

The kids practiced all morning and the inspection began at 1:30pm.

The kids looked great and the annual went off as planned. It was a great parade and a really nice day :)

AADAC Youth Services

Today I was invited to AADAC Youth Services to celebrate 15 years of service to youth.

It was a really great get together, they had invited a number of old staff members to come and celebrate with them so I got to see a bunch of people that I have not seen for a few years. They have renovated the building recently so I was also given a tour to see the changes... overall it was just a great day.

One of the counsellors Kristin gave a really nice speach as well where she told a story about hiking up a mountain with one of the kids... they were both pretty exhausted and stopped half way up to take a break. They got to talking about how life can sometimes feel like you are just going, going, going until you finally reach the top and then die! They also talked about how they could prevent that from happening and the kid said "I guess you just have to remember to take a break once in a while and appreciate the view, acknowledge the work you've already done"...

I'm glad that AADAC was part of my journey so far and it was great to sit back today and appreciate that part of my journey.

The kids also made us each a beautiful picture and frame to take home with is.

BBQ At Ren's

My Uncle Neil and Aunt Cathy are in town for the weekend so Ronaye had a bar-b-que for the whole fam dam...

Craig cooked us up some big weiners and hamburgers...

It was a great get together and another great gathering of the "Shadbolt" side of the family :)

Me, Ren and Bexki headed out to the Point after the Bar-b-que to test our luck... it was up and down but we ended up down :(

Night At G'z

I came home from work friday night after a very long day at work to find a party happening at G's house next door. My good friend from cadets sixteen years ago Chuck Cawthorne(I am so getting old!)was over there as well.

Genitta's good friend Linda got in a terrible accident yesterday and her and her friends were getting together to support each other and to support Linda as well.

We sat around and chatted for a bit...

Tavis and Preston broke out the video games...

and the rest of us eventually broke out the cards for a game of asshole!
It was fun to be had by all...

Lost My Comments

I'm going into work at noon today. I am supervising a new volunteer on the crisis line so it should be a pretty relaxed day... I'll get to visit all the staff and volunteers in the phone room.

A Good Day

I had to work today but my volunteer group graduated so it was a really nice day to just wrap up the training and get them ready to go on the lines this week.

I got home and my sister had a fam-dam bar-b-que so it was great to visit with Tavis, G, Ren, Craig and the boys!

Not Good Enough

I bought myself a really cheap watch on the weekend and the damb wristband on it broke tonight... I finally get a watch after six months and it lasts for two days and it's useless... will I ever get to know the time???

I've been in trouble at work it seems, but not in trouble at the same time. It can be strange around there sometimes. I'm being told that I am doing a good job and am valued... but that I am not really qualified for my job... which I don't understand because if I wasn't qualified then how could I be doing a good job?

I hold my full time position there and also have a relief position which means I feel like I'm working all the time but it gives me the opportunity to get extra cash and make just enough for my mortgage and bills (I cannot work overtime with my job but I get lieu time if I work long hours in my f/t position). I just got fired from my relief position today... it hurts cause I was struggling with the bills before this and now that's a few more hundred down the hole. I didn't mess up, nobody complained, and they are not saying that I was doing a bad job... they just decided that after me working the position for over a year that I am just not qualified.

It's the biggest reoccuring theme in my life and I just don't get it. I try hard... too hard at times to be good and do it all right... but it always comes down to, we like you, and you do such a good job, but your not good enough. Relationships, career, finances, you name it... I'm good... but apparently not good enough...

And Then There Was Sun

I woke up this morning and it is beautiful and hot outside... you've got to love Calgary. You never know what to wear outside!

It's A Sick Snowy Day

I had a feeling that the weather was going to change drastically. I had a killer headache last night and my head felt like it was in a vice. I woke up with a headache and a stomache ache at about 3am and was up again at 7am not feeling very well at all. I looked outside and it was raining.

I called into work to say that I wasn't feeling very good and that I wouldn't be in and headed back to bed with the alarm turned off. I got a few more hours sleep and just woke up with Jaike whinning in my ear... he wanted food and he wanted to go out.

I walked upstairs and it is SNOWING out there... typical Calgary... but I guess it explains my migrane! I'm going to bum around for a bit and if I feel better maybe go into work for a bit... maybe not.

Monday

It's only Monday but for some reason I feel like it should be the end of the week. I just feel exhausted and like I am on my fifth or sixth day of work in a row... but it's only Monday and my next day off is not until Sunday. I have some lieu time built up at work so maybe I can take a few more days off next week once this training group is done.

Training went well today... no need for an ambulance at all!

Mother's Day

I had a great Mother's Day visiting my mom today.

I went over with my sister and it was actually quite a busy house this year since my mom invited a few of her other mother friends over as well. Lots of laugh and some great cheesecake!

Today

I am currently training a group of volunteers and they are definitely one of the best groups I've had... but they are falling apart on me!

A few weeks ago one volunteer on crutches had an accident and really hurt himself leaving the building and today I am pretty sure one of my volunteers had a stroke in training.

They say things happen in three's but I really hope not!

My Boys

Okay you have to admit my cats are priceless...

I mean just look at those freckles on his nose...

I think Jack's jealous... he wishes he had my cats...

Oh yes and I think my godboys need a haircut!

The Annual General Meeting

It's been a busy week. We had our Annual General Meeting this week at work (hence the cake). It was really extravagant this year since we are also celebrating our 35th anniversary.

We were even given a wonderful lunch to munch on during the meeting :)

The speakers were even quite interesting... they went thru some of the archives and we got to learn more about the history of the Distress Centre :)

Another Day

I woke up in a really good mood today but it didn't really last. I'm not 100% sure what changed my mood so drastically but I decided the storm clouds probably weren't helping so I took them down (sorry Jess).

Stormy Days

So I walked into my office this afternoon and my officemate Jessica had decorated my side of the office with stormy black rain clouds!

I think this has something to do with the fact that I told her that "no I did not need flowers on my side of the office" on Saturday when she was in decorating her side of the office...

What can I say... the office is very busy looking now! I'm keeping them up...

This weekend was pretty uneventful... I trained on Saturday and did dishes etc on Sunday.

Avery had a lacrosse game on Friday night which was great to watch!

Jordan took me on a tour of the leisure centre as well...

We got to see what was happening in every room and we also saw the zamboni thing cleaning the ice! It was a good time for all :)
